If you decide to engage one of the PA Home Energy contractors in your area, you can expect them to perform a full analysis on your home. They will start with a visual inspection that looks not only at any obvious problems, but also at the underlying causes. These analysts look at the building as a system of inter-relating components. For example, a mold problem may signal an underlying moisture problem - and because of the way air moves within buildings, the source of that moisture is not always obvious.
The home analysis is meant to clarify these types of issues, and others. Your attic will be examined, as well as your crawlspace or basement. The contractor will set up a large fan in the front door and establish a negative air pressure in your home. At the same time, the contractor will go around the house to check on air leakage. The contractor will look at the way your windows and doors have been installed. The contractor will test the efficiency of your furnace and appliances. In the end, you will be provided with a full report that may include several options for improvements, complete with the return on investment if you were to actually have them done. And then the contractor can assist you to perform the improvements if you are interested.
